One Year On – the first report from the National Advisory Council for Children’s Mental Health and Psychological Wellbeing

This report was published March 2010.

“The emotional wellbeing and mental health of children and young people is as important as their physical health and is a vital safeguard for their successful future. A year ago, the CAMHS Review called on everyone to ensure they play their part in supporting and improving children’s emotional wellbeing and mental health.

This report looks at examples of progress but also at the many challenges that need to be tackled if the Review recommendations are to be achieved. It outlines how the National Advisory Council will continue to work with young people, Government and the field to stimulate more open debate and to find solutions in the current economic climate. It cautions against any disinvestment in services: the progress that has been made year on year now needs to be sustained, for the benefit of individuals and society.”

Mental Health Act 1983 Code of Practice (2008 Revision)

The Parliament at Westminster passed the Mental Health Act 2007 [Royal Assent 19 July 2007] which updated the 1983 Act to bring it into line with the way mental health services are, and should be, delivered in England. This Code of Practice provides guidance and advice to registered medical practitioners, approved clinicians, managers and staff of hospitals, and approved mental health professionals on how they should proceed when undertaking duties under the Act. It also gives general guidance to doctors and other professionals about certain aspects of medical treatment for mental disorders.

This website is a good starting point for situation in Scotland.
